Artists Experience
Hosted by Artists of New Mexico, LLC
Children’s Activities
Involving
Science, Math and Art (Art is SMArt)
During the
Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta®
October 3 -11, 2009
We are recruiting volunteers to lead interactive workshops designed to actively engage and educate area school children. Artists of New Mexico and the Balloon Fiesta are working together with the local Public Schools and the Home School families to promote fun, free, balloon oriented educational activities for children and their families during the Balloon Fiesta.
We’d like to invite you to participate in helping children to understand the science and math behind what they are witnessing on the launch field. The workshops will include a 20 - 30 minute educational session followed by a 30 minute art project utilizing what the children just learned about.
We’d like to answer some basic questions using interactive projects such as:
- How do the balloons work?
- How do you steer a balloon?
- How is a balloon built?
Artists of New Mexico will also be sponsoring a large scale community
3-D mosaic art project involving fractals and partnering with the Fractal
Foundation. It will be displayed for the year throughout the city
and then brought back for the 2010 Balloon Fiesta.
Hours and Perks:
There will be a total of 14 sessions - 9 morning and 5 evening
